Kate Middleton provides an update regarding her chemotherapy and cancer: "Not leaving the woods"

Along with her most recent announcement, Catherine, Princess of Wales, she revealed a brand-new picture of herself.

Despite having attended Trooping the Colour just a few days prior, Catherine, Princess of Wales, has been conspicuously absent from the Royal Ascot horse racing event, which runs until June 22.

Her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, were also pictured at Royal Ascot. This was the couple's first public appearance since their daughter revealed she had been diagnosed with cancer.

Royal observers shouldn't be shocked by the former Kate Middleton's withdrawal from the contest, though, as she recently stated that she doesn't plan to return to her royal responsibilities in full for some time. The princess revealed on Friday that she is making "good progress" but still has a few months of therapy ahead, marking her first update since disclosing that she is receiving cancer treatment.

Her first official public appearance since December, Trooping the Colour 2024, will take place the following day, she revealed in the statement. She looked cool and collected during the king's official birthday parade, donning a white bonnet and a black-and-white Jenny Packham dress—one of her favorite labels.

She may be seen playing with her kids and grinning in behind-the-scenes video.

In March, Kate initially disclosed that she had received a cancer diagnosis. She had not discussed her diagnosis or course of treatment in public since making her initial declaration until Friday's statement.

Kate Middleton, along with William and their three children, Prince George, age 10, Princess Charlotte, age 9, and Prince Louis, age 6, attended Trooping the Colour in 2024. As is customary, they rode in a carriage down the Mall and waved to onlookers from the balcony.

A few pictures from the day were posted on the future king and queen's official Instagram account. They showed Louis waving through one of the carriages' windows and Catherine fiddling with her daughter's hair.

Many royal observers were taken aback when they learned that Kate would be participating in Trooping the Colour, as she had missed the rehearsal, also called the Colonel's Review, on June 8.

Kate was eager to clarify that she isn't formally returning to her royal duties after confirming her presence. She wrote that she intends “to join a few public engagements over the summer,” but she is “not out of the woods yet.”

The princess had not appeared in public before Trooping the Colour since her family's yearly Christmas church trip in 2023. However, a senior palace assistant revealed that last month, she took some time to read a report from a project she is involved in, The Royal Foundation Business Taskforce for Early Childhood.

She has occasionally worked from home, even attending some meetings when her health permits.

The princess's latest photo was provided by the palace along with Friday's announcement. She appears thoughtful in the picture, standing up against a tree, wearing trousers and a tan blazer.

A SCRIPT NOTE FROM THE WALES PRINCESS

The amount of kind letters of encouragement and support I have received over the past few months has amazed me. For William and myself, it has truly meant the world and gotten us through some incredibly difficult moments.

I am progressing well, although there are good days and bad days with chemotherapy, as anyone going through it knows. You have to give in to your body's need for rest on those awful days when you feel weak and exhausted. On the other hand, you want to take full advantage of feeling well on your good days, when you feel stronger.

I have a couple more months left of treatment. I like to do things that make me feel good about myself, take part in school activities, and occasionally work from home when I'm feeling well enough.

II know I'm not out of the woods yet, but I'm looking forward to celebrating The King's Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and plan to participate in a few public events throughout the summer.

I'm getting better at having patience, especially when something is unclear. embracing each day as it comes, paying attention to my health, and granting myself permission to use this crucial time for healing.

I am truly grateful for your unfailing comprehension and the bravery with which each of you has shared your experiences with me.
